Q. Perkins Loan - What is a Perkins Loan?

A. Federal Perkins Loans are low interest, need-based loans awarded by colleges. Loans are limited because under the program, each college is only given a limited amount of loan money to distribute. Those receiving Perkins loans begin paying interest nine months after graduation.
