Q. Stafford Loan - What is a Stafford Loan?

A. A Stafford Loan is a low-interest education loan guaranteed by the federal government under the Federal Family Education Loan Program. If financial need requirements are met, the loan may be subsidized by the government, in which case the government will make interest payments while the student is in college and for a grace period after graduation. While the government guarantees the loan, the loan itself is made by a bank, credit union, or other lender.
